How to Crochet an American Patriot Square

Here are the materials you will need to crochet this square:

Small amounts of Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight yarn in Cherry Red, Royal Blue and White (or three colors of your choice)

Size H crochet hook

Yarn needle (for weaving ends in)

Scissors

Size: This square measures approximately three and one-quarter inches square

Round One: With Cherry Red yarn, chain four, join with a slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring, chain three, work eleven double crochets into the ring you just made, join round with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning chain three (you now have a total of twelve double crochets in Round One, counting the beginning chain three as one double crochet). Fasten off Cherry Red yarn.

Round Two: Join White with a slip stitch in the first double crochet of Round One (the top of the beginning chain three), chain one, work two single crochets into the same double crochet, work two single crochets into the next double crochet and into each double crochet around, join round with a slip stitch in the beginning single crochet (you now have a total of twenty-four single crochets). Fasten off White yarn.

Round Three: Join Royal Blue yarn with a slip stitch in the first single crochet of Round Two, chain four, work five treble crochets into the same single crochet as beginning chain four, skip the next two single crochets, work three double crochets into the next single crochet, skip the next two single crochets, work six treble crochets into the next single crochet, skip the next two single crochets, work three double crochets into the next single crochet, skip the next two single crochets, work six treble crochets into the next single crochet, skip the next two single crochets, work three double crochets into the next single crochet, skip the next two single crochets, work six treble crochets into the next single crochet, skip the next two single crochets, work three double crochets into the next single crochet, skip the last two single crochets, join round with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning chain four (you now have a total of thirty-six stitches in Round Three, twenty-four of them are treble crochets and twelve of them are double crochets). Fasten off Royal Blue yarn. Weave in all ends securely.
