Quick Knitted Stocking Stuffers

You can knit up these stocking stuffers quickly and please everyone.

Are you running out of time? It's Christmas, you know! Grab your knitting needles and fill those stockings with these quick gifts.

Bookmark stocking stuffer. Make an I-cord (see below) six or eight inches long or longer, then knit two simple shapes and attach to either end. If you make two and sew them together, they'll be heavy enough to stay where they're put. I made a simple triangle and doubled it over. You could make a small pocket in your shape and put a small weight in it, too.

Purse pouch stocking stuffer. Knit a circle about eight inches across. Bind off and draw a length of yarn around the edges, about an inch down. Put a button or large bead on both ends, draw it up and there you go - a pouch to hold some of those odds and ends that get lost in the bottom of a purse. Put lip balm in it so she'll know what it's for!

Soft ball stocking stuffer. For a small child, knit a soft ball that won't break things. Cast on 30 or 40 stitches on small needles (size 2 or 3) and sport weight yarn. Knit one row, then make a short row, stopping one stitch from the end. Knit the next row and on the next row, stop two stitches from the end. Knit the next row then on the next row, stop three stitches from the end. Knit the next row and on the next row stop two stitches from the end; knit the next row and stop one inch from the end. Repeat these rows until you have a piece big enough to look circular. Cast off, stuff and sew the edges together.

Personalized washcloth stocking stuffer. Washcloths with initials on them are good for anyone! Knit them in or embroider them on afterwards. A simple stockinette stitch with a border of knit stitch is best for initials, but you can knit pictures or patterns, too. Look online for patterns or make your own. Simple knit and stockinette stitches make pictures that stand out or in. Experiment a little and you'll see how easy it is.

How to Knit an Icord

Icords are great for connecting things, for edging things and just for fun. You'll probably find a lot of uses for icords once you see how easy they are to make.

You'll need two double point needles and yarn of the right size for the needles.

To begin, cast on three stitches. Later, you can experiment with five or seven or even more stitches, but let's start with three. Knit the first row and slip the stitches to the other end of the needle. Turn the needle around and knit the next row from that end. Continue this way, drawing the yarn firmly but not too tightly across the stitches. It's harder to explain than it is to do, so just try it.

These sound neat. Thanks.

Interesting and informative...thanks for posting

My ex wife would have loved this one. She has been a knitter for over fifty years.

Thanks, everyone.

I've never done knitting...just made some pot holders one time but your guide is really cool...

These are really great, I love to knit but why is it there is never the time there used to be - Oh I suppose the internet took over! I'm going to try a couple of the bookmarks, finding something no-one can is super. Thank you for the article.

The internet? Oh... you mean the place I live! Yeah, it tends to take over a lot! :) Thanks, Lynda.

It sounds like you are a talented knitter. I can knit a scarf that is about all the knitting talent I have. These are great ideas though.

Thanks, Rae. I always want to encourage knitters to expand their experience. Hint. ;)

Good ideas gal as well as good writing.
